It’s A Wool-derful Life

wool1Following the closure of Purely Wool on Market Street, Lancaster a few months ago we decided to trial a small selection of wool products in Fabrix. We were aware that many of our customers were also keen knitters and crocheters and the closure of Purely Wool would leave them with limited options when it came to finding the quality brands they wanted.

So, we introduced a bijou selection of fine wools in the store to see how it went. We’re delighted to say that many of our customers have been thrilled at the selection and the feedback has been incredibly encouraging. Among the suppliers we’re stocking are King Cole, Designer Yarns and Sirdar. We also have a wide range of needles, hooks, patterns and lots of lovely buttons to choose from.

wool2The great news is that while accommodating this exiting new range we have been able (through some creative re-arranging!) to keep the same amount of fabulous fabric in stock.

So, now you can visit Fabrix for an even wider range of great crafting, sewing and knitting materials and haberdashery. And if you can’t make it into the shop yourself please give us a call, we’re happy to post out any orders.

Hallowe’en Fabric Fun!

photo(2)If you’ve been past Fabrix in the last few days you will have doubtless noticed that we’ve added a new Hallowe’en themed window!

We decided on a somewhat subtle approach; there are no fake spider webs (though there are a couple of incy wincy spiders…), witches’ hats or vampires but I’m sure you’ll love the gorgeous ‘Sew Scary‘ quilting panel from Quilting Treasures just as much as we do. And at only £8.40 a panel they’ll be flying out of the shop (broomstick not included)!

photo(1)We’ve also added a taste of creepy culinary chic with a lovely autumnal apron – perfect for when you’re rustling up a few Hallowe’en snacks.

Then when the excitement is all over you can recline on a spooky skull-festooned cushion. We even have some terrifically terrifying glow-in-the-dark skeleton fabric to add yet more fun to the occasion!

So, if you want to add a bit of Hallowe’en spice to your autumn craft projects, or are already thinking about a few Christmas ideas why not pop into Fabrix and take a look at our range of seasonal materials and patterns.

Sign Of The Times

Shop_CookieIf you’ve passed Fabrix in the past few days you may have noticed that the shop front has had something of make-over.

We had some new fascia boards put up and a lovely new paint job (thanks Gary and Dave!) followed by some new shop signage which we had placed today.

Wayne’s World

hemingway webWe all know local boy Wayne Hemingway is something of a fashion guru, famed for his Red Or Dead brand plus his globally renowned homestyle designs.

Fabrix Lancaster are delighted to announce that we are official stockists of his new gorgeous vintage textile range for Makower.

This uber cool collection, made from 100% super quality cotton is 112cms wide and is available at the great price of only £11.99 a metre.

If you’re planning a fab craft project grab why not grab some sumptuous fat-quarters – you will make it come alive with this dazzling retro range. Sassy sewers considering a traffic-stopping vintage dress will find Hemingway’s collection absolutely perfect for the job.

Just imagine how divine you’ll look strolling along the prom at Morecambe’s Vintage By The Sea Festival in September, decked out in Hemingway’s finest designs! Who knows, he might even come over and congratulate you himself…

Ahoy there!

All aboard for our new craft window! I’ve been busy making a selection of ocean-themed characters, so keep your eyes over-board as you sail past Fabrix over the next few weeks.

The pattern recommends that these are made using fleece fabrics but I’ve employed a combination of felt and fleece. If, like me, you got lots of scraps of polar fleece kicking about why not construct a whole shoal of  multi-coloured fish?

Sunny fabrics for June

window juneAs the weather’s finally picked up we’ve added lots of colour into our June window. Elaine has made a lovely viscose print dress using a Burda pattern while I’ve made some viscose trousers, a butterfly print jersey top and coral jacket. I’ve also sewn a sunflower motif linen and viscose dress with a linen-cotton blend jacket.

These are all in our window right now, accompanied by our handmade sunflowers made out of various materials from our stock. Hopefully this will brighten up even the dullest of Summer days!

Royal Fabric Fit for a Queen!

royal_fabricLancaster is buzzing with regal-fever today (May 29) as the Queen arrives in the city to pay a private visit to Lancaster Castle.

In acknowledgement of this grand, traffic-stopping occasion we thought we’d share with you a little royal fabric from our extensive stock of materials fit for a Queen!

Of course Fabrix will remain open all day so please pop down to our shop – who knows, maybe even Her Majesty will drop by for a couple of meters of cotton poplin!
